At Huipil we contribute to the well-being of artisans from vulnerable communities on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, providing them with ethical and fair working conditions within their communities and with a firm commitment to the preservation and dissemination of the textile tradition of Oaxaca.
In our beginnings and after an arduous investigation in all the municipalities that by tradition are dedicated to the traditional embroidery of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, we realized that one of the municipalities with the longest textile tradition and the one with the greatest social vulnerability in the region was San Juan Guichicovi, municipality of the lower Mixe area of Oaxaca. The women of this community, who in their vast majority, in addition to dedicating themselves to household functions and caring for their children, play a fundamental role in the household economy with the production of huipiles, have deficient marketing channels, as well as not have high quality materials. In addition to that, ignorance of commercial practices leads them to waste their work and remain invisible to society.
WE CREATE VALUE ORIENTED CLOTHING
We combine traditional embroidery techniques from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, with 100% natural fibers such as Irish linen and high quality materials to make huipiles, blouses and guayaberas, comfortable, fresh, elegant and durable, which contributes to reducing the impact of the textile industry and promote responsible consumption.
ETHICAL AND FAIR WORK: We generate constant jobs with fair remuneration in vulnerable communities, being respectful of the times of each of the artisans.
FRIENDLY WITH THE ENVIRONMENT: We use 100% natural, high quality fibers and we try to totally reduce the use of synthetic materials in our processes.
PRESERVATION OF THE TEXTILE TRADITION: We investigate, promote and carry out artisan techniques and we rescue the traditional iconography of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
QUALITY: We are committed to the quality of our products, from the choice of raw material to the embroidery and finishing of each garment.
